Dear Lt. Swain:

I am writing to invite you and the members of the Police Officers' Association of Nebraska to attend a town hall meeting that I am hosting on the Doane College campus in Crete , NE , on Friday, March 17, 2006. The purpose of the town hall meeting is to discuss federal funding and a coordinated effort to combat methamphetamine in Nebraska .

Congressman Frank Wolf of Virginia will be joining me at this event. Congressman Wolf is the Chairman of the Science, the Departments of State, Justice, and Commerce (SSJC) Appropriations Subcommittee. The SSJC appropriations bill provides federal funding for a number of critical programs in the fight against meth including the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Program, and the Drug Court Program.

As you may know, the President's Fiscal Year 2007 Budget recommends the elimination of the Byrne Program. This funding is critical to the multi-jurisdictional drug task forces in Nebraska and additional reductions to this program would severely limit the ability of these task forces to address drug-related crime in Nebraska . This town hall meeting will be an opportunity for law enforcement officials to discuss the importance of Byrne funding to Nebraska and the impact this program has on our communities. Additionally, law enforcement officials will hear from Congressman Wolf about future funding for state and local law enforcement activities vital to our area.

Please join us on Friday, March 17 th from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. for this important event. The meeting will be held in the Witcomb Lee Conservatory on the Doane College campus. Directions to Doane College

FROM I-80:

Take exit 388 South 14 miles (Hwy. 103) to Hwy. 33.
Take a right on Hwy. 33 (going west) for 2 miles to Boswell Avenue .
Follow Boswell Avenue south (take a left) until you get to 13th St .

FROM LINCOLN :

Take Hwy. 77 south approx. 12 miles to Hwy. 33.
Take Hwy. 33 west 14 miles to Boswell Avenue .
Turn left (going south) on Boswell to 13 St.

FROM THE WEST:

Hwy 6 and Hwy. 34 to Hwy. 33 (junction between Friend and Dorchester ).
Follow Hwy. 33 (east) through Crete ( 13th St. ), up the hill to Boswell Avenue .
Take a right (south) on Boswell.
